When I burn dvds and play them the sound is choppy and distorted? Friends have said the quality is always better if low burning speeds are used. Is that right? If this information is wrong, then I will burn blank disks at higher speeds, to get this task done quicker. Except it takes me 2 hours to encode and burn a single DVD. I chose the fastest burning speed option (although it did not specify any speeds such as 16x or 8x). The burner itself does not specify what speeds it can write at, just says DVD Rewriteable - I am using Sony DVD-R that says 16x/1x, which I'm assuming are the highest/lowest speeds. - I am burning video files in which I uploaded from a VCD, and then used Xilosoft Video Converter 3 to convert the .dat files to .wmv files. - I have two hard drives and the converted .wmv files in a hard drive that has over 80% free space. Is there anything I could change or do extra in this whole process to making DVD burning significantly faster? Perhaps a new program I can use (free would be preferable since I plan to make many DVDs using several computers with both XP and Vista)?

DVD burner wont burn CDs but DVDs? It is supposed to burn both and now it will only burn DVDs not CDs. Ive tried 2 different brand of disks, Sony, and Memorex. When I burn DVDs Im using Memorex but when I use the same brand for CDs it wont burn. Ive tried slowing down the writing speed all the way down to 2x and it still wont work. Unable to burn dvds!!!!? hi guys.. i am unable to burn dvds in my coputer.. but the thing is i can burn cds..( - R) ok i tried dvd+ and dvd- both when i insert them it says that no cds in the drive.. i could use cd- to burn my files but they are too large... :) plz help me i wasted like $20... dont tell me to install any burner.. bcz i tried most of them.. and i dont wanna use any random 1... i have to make a back up for my computer... plz help guys.. it will be appreciated.... lol i think i didnt make it clear bcz i asked for what kinda disk should i use not the kinda burner... i dont need burner bcz im making a backup cd for my computer ^_^

DVD Burner Will Not Burn DvDs? I recently added some burning software (Nero) and I had roxio media creator 6 already installed on my computer. I am having problems burning DVDs at all. Whether its data dvd discs, media dvd discs, it won't burn a dvd disc at all. It is DVD R/RW compatible. It works with cds fine. I updated my firmware (I'm using a _NEC DVD_RW ND-1300A, which came with my computer). I'm running 1.0C firmware. I uninstalled the the drive and drivers and reinstalled them. When I go to burn a DVD, it doesn't let me select a write speed for the dvd disc. The drop down menu is empty in roxio media creator 6. I don't think its software related, but I removed nero. Nero was having issues too, I believe the error was e80070057 illegal parameter. The burning software copies the files and then ejects the disc... no writing is ever done to the black dvd. Do you guys have any ideas of any possible ways to fix this problem? I tried system restore to correct settings, but nothing has worked. Nero is no longer on the computer. It was working before with both nero and roxio. They do not have conflicting problems before version 7. It's not caused by these software issues. Windows restoration isn't going to help.

ALRIGHT, this is probably a stupid question, but here it goes. my new computer comes with a dvd burner. i tried to make copies of dvds that i bought and are in my possession but it just tells me that there are copywrite laws. I can understand if you were trying to copy dvds that you rented (ie like netflix or blockbuster) but these are dvds that i purchased. am i doing something wrong? it's not illegal to burn a copy of a dvd you bought right? i would think it would be like burning a copy of a cd....any information on how i can copy my personal dvd collection would be helpful. also, anyone who can give me a background on why they even MADE dvd burners if they were going to make it nearly impossible to use it would be appreciated as well, cause i'm annoyed. Can i burn dvds and put them into windows movie maker? I just got a new dell laptop with a dvd burner and windows movie maker. I was wondering if it was possible to burn dvds onto my computer, then edit them in movie maker if i wanted to make some sort of mini video with different clips in it? My computer will burn CDs, but not DVDs....more details....Please Help!!!? My HP Pavilion zd7000 (purchased in September of 2004) has a DVD/CD-RW which will burn CDs, but will not burn DVDs. When I try to burn a new DVD, it says to insert a writable disc. It says there is no free space on the DVD, yet there are no files on it (because it's new). I cannot play a DVD, however, I have no problems with viewing files on CDs and listening to audio CDs. I think it has something to do with my not having a decoder thingy; I have tried to go through the steps on-line to download a DVD decoder, but I can't get anywhere.
